Meet The Maker
Emma Furtado is a local artist who paints horses, feminine figures, florals and landscapes that are memorable to her.
Emma graduated with a Bachelor of Art in English from San Jose State University and worked in tech for 10 years after college. She took ceramics classes in high school and college, but never enrolled in a painting class.
She began painting with oils in 2016, but the habit didn’t stick; she only covered a few canvases. In 2020, she started drawing in the evenings, but she only reached for the pencils a few times. She switched mediums again after making a handful of drawings. Before long, her canvases, covered in acrylic paint, needed their own home. She became prolific overnight. Paintings took over the kitchen island; there wasn’t much space to eat! That drawing sketchbook still has plenty of blank pages.
Emma’s paintings are made up of many layers and are full of texture. Sometimes painting reminds her of creating a sculpture in ceramics class.
Emma wants to make art that brightens the room and starts conversations.
